The Amalfi Coast is renowned for its stunning landscapes, dramatic cliffs, and, of course, its beautiful beaches. Tourists from all over the world travel to the Amalfi Coast to experience the beaches and iconic views.
Each beach in the Amalfi Coast offers a unique slice of paradise, from secluded coves to bustling beach clubs. If you’re planning a visit to the Amalfi Coast, here are the 7 best beaches in the Amalfi Coast you should visit during your trip.
Located in a small cove close to the center of Praiano, Marina di Praia is a small, picturesque beach that’s a favorite to both locals and tourists. The beach’s sheltered location makes the water calm, clear, and perfect for swimming.
There are beach chairs you can rent, if you plan to spend a lot of time relaxing here. There are also several excellent seafood restaurants and bars nearby, where you can enjoy fresh, local cuisine with a view of the sea. There are also many boat excursions and private charters that leave from here. We went on a private sunset charter tour that left from here, and while it was definitely a splurge, it was worth it for the incredible views of Priano and Positano. It’s definitely one of the most romantic things to do in the Amalfi Coast and should be on all couples’ Amalfi Coast bucket list.
Fiordo di Furore, located in the village of Furore, is the most unique beach in the Amalfi Coast. It has a dramatic, almost surreal location that makes it feel like a beach you would find in a fairytale! This fjord-like inlet is nestled between towering cliffs which are connected with a picturesque bridge. This beach is accessible via a staircase from the main road or by boat.
The setting of Fiordo di Furore is truly breathtaking. The fjord is a narrow gorge with a small beach at its end, with striking blue-green water. Like many beaches along the Amalfi Coast, this beach is pebbly, so bring your water shoes for the most comfortable experience.
While it is a small beach, the beach itself actually goes quite a ways back so there is a lot of room for tourists to lay out their towels without overcrowding one another. The surrounding cliffs offer a lot of shade so you don’t have to worry about bringing a beach umbrella or constantly reapplying sunscreen.
Spiaggia Grande in Positano is the most famous beach in the Amalfi Coast. There’s a reason it is so famous – the towering views of Positano, the black sand, and the clear turquoise water make it one of the most spectacular beaches in the Amalfi Coast.
Located in the heart of Positano, this beach is as vibrant and lively as the town itself.
Spiaggia Grande is known for its colorful umbrellas and sunbeds, set against the backdrop of Positano’s iconic pastel-colored buildings that cascade down the hillside. The sight of these buildings cascading over the bright blue sea is a postcard-perfect view that you won’t find anywhere else.
There are plenty of restaurants, bars, and shops along and near the beach. Be prepared for some of the highest prices here along the Amalfi Coast – If you want to rent one of the iconic sunbeds, expect to pay around 70 euros for 2 beach chairs and an umbrella.
There is a free sandy area on the beach where you can lay out your towel, but it can get super busy during peak season so it definitely won’t be the most relaxing experience if you come during the summer months. Food and drink prices here are also astronomical – you’d be better off picking up an Aperol spritz and a snack at one of the markets in town in my opinion.
We spent most of the time just swimming in the water and enjoying the incredible views of Positano. I’m the type of person who prefers being in the water instead of lounging on the beach, so I didn’t rent a sun bed and had no regrets.
If you are a strong swimmer, there are 2 little inlets you can swim to. I’m not sure if it is different during peak season, but when we went we had the little coves to ourselves and it was basically like having a private beach in Positano!
Spiaggia Grande is where all of the ferries come in, so be prepared for crazy crowds lined up on the pier during peak season. It shouldn’t bother you, but you might be bewildered at just the sheer amount of people that come and leave from Positano every day.
There are many private sunset charters that leave from this beach. This tour leaves from either Spiaggia Grande, Marina di Praia, or La Gavitella Beach, so if you’d like to splurge on a private sunset charter I would just choose to leave from whichever beach is closest to where you are staying, as they all go to Positano to watch the sunset.
Fornillo Beach is a quieter alternative in Positano to Spiagga Grande. Located just a short walk from the main beach in Positano, Fornillo Beach offers more of a relaxed vibe and is less busy. By no means is it secluded, but in comparison to Spiagga Grande it is much quieter.
Its shore is pebbly and the water is crystal clear. The beach is backed by steep cliffs and lush vegetation, creating a beautiful and tranquil atmosphere. The walk from Positano Spiaggia to Fornillo Beach is incredibly scenic and offers beautiful views of the coastline along the way.
The calm and clear waters of Fornillo Beach are perfect for swimming and snorkeling. If you’re into water sports, you can also rent kayaks and paddleboards here so you can take in some of the amazing views of Positano from further away in the sea.
Located in Praiano, La Gavitella Beach is a true hidden gem. This small but stunning beach is one of the few on the Amalfi Coast that has sunlight from dawn until dusk, making it a perfect spot to bask in the sun and enjoy the refreshing water all day long. This is pretty rare for the Amalfi Coast because many beaches are shaded by towering cliffs, and have limited direct sunlight during the day.
The beach is accessible via a steep set of stairs that winds down from Praiano, and you definitely are rewarded at the end with a gorgeous, secluded beach with spectacular views. The water is crystal clear and has a beautiful turquoise color, making it perfect for swimming and snorkeling. There’s even a small natural swimming pool called Fontana dell’Altare nearby!
On top of everything, the beach offers a stunning view of Positano and the island of Capri in the distance, so you can enjoy going for a swim while taking in some incredible views.
La Gavitella Beach also has a small beach club where you can rent sunbeds and umbrellas during the summer months. The club serves delicious local dishes and refreshing drinks, making it a great place to relax and enjoy the beach without having to bring your own food and drink.
Please note that if you have a physical disability it may be difficult for you to access this beach due to the amount of stairs. There are several other beaches on this list that will be much easier for you to access if this is the case.
Spiaggia di Atrani is located in the village of Atrani – the smallest village in the Amalfi Coast! While Atrani is just right next to Amalfi, in my opinion, the beach here is much nicer than Amalfi’s main beach. It’s less busy and offers a beautiful view of a unique winding bridge and the villages’ colorful houses.
The water here is crystal clear and perfect for swimming. In the summer months, you can rent a beach chair and spend time relaxing while taking in the views. This beach is easily accessible and is perfect for people of all ages.
Last but certainly not least, Lido di Ravello Beach is located less than a 5-minute walk from Spiaggia di Atrani and is one of the best hidden gem beaches in the Amalfi Coast. The water is a gorgeous bright blue color and was some of the clearest I saw along the coast. It has a laid-back atmosphere and is a local favorite.
During the summer months, you can rent sunbeds and umbrellas from one of the beach clubs. The beach clubs and restaurants were closed when we were here in October, but I hear the restaurants offer amazing cuisine and the sunbeds are reasonably priced in comparison to many other beach clubs in the Amalfi Coast.
The Amalfi Coast is home to some of the most beautiful beaches in Italy, each with its own unique charm and allure. Whether you’re looking for a lively, bustling beach like Positano Spiaggia, a small secluded beach like La Gavitella Beach, or a dramatic, setting like Fiordo di Furore, there’s a beach for everyone in the Amalfi Coast.
